BBNet and Netgear Router Example

To fully participate in BBNet from behind a firewall or from a LAN, you must allow incoming connections on ports 64000 and 8080. Below are instructions for setting up a Netgear MR314 router. Steps for other brands will be similar.

First find your IP address like this like this:
Click Start | Programs | Accessories | Command Prompt
Type ipconfig and press Enter.
Make a note of the address after "IP Address"

Access the router settings with a web browser by going to http://192.168.0.1/

Once logged in, click Advanced, then click Ports. You'll see a table of ports.

Find an unused row and enter 8080 for the Start Port, 8080 for the End Port and enter the IP address you retrieved with the ipconfig program above.

Find another unused row and enter 64000 for the Start Port, 64000 for the End Port and enter the IP address you retrieved with the ipconfig program above.

Your router will now direct incoming connections on these ports to your computer instead of blocking them.

Just for clarification, which protocols for the port forwarding - tcp, udp, or both?

Both are TCP only.
